A Weekly Meditation of Pastor Chang (December 13, 2009)

<Futurology, Soothsaying, Fortunetelling, and Biblical Prophecy> (2)

Few weeks ago, my wife and I went to visit a very good friend, Dr. Mike Yang, in North Carolina.

He is a scientist and also a very devoted Christian. This trip with this couple we had good time together. We really enjoyed this kind of Christian fellowship.

During our conversation, I asked Dr. Yang as a scientist about his opinion to predict the futures of the USA, China, and Taiwan.  It seems a kind of scientific futurology, yet interesting. Here is his sharing (*this writing is without his review yet, in case of any error that is my responsibility):

Dr. Yang still believes that in the future, the coming 50 years, the USA will still maintain her leadership on the stage of the world affairs. Several reasons:

1. Historically, most of the great kingdoms or empires in human history would last at least more than 200 years or even longer. For example, the Babylonian Empire, Roman Empire, or even the Chinese dynasties, always last several hundred years. Especially if a nation which had good social systems and political stability always last for several centuries. The USA just rose up 60 years ago after World War 2. Therefore, the USA still has strong potential to develop her power and leadership on the stage of the human history.

2. The entire Europe continent as a whole entity has been very active in the world for more than 20 centuries. Now it is declining. But the American continent just rises up. It still has a long way to develop her potentials.

3. From the energy point of view, although the USA so far consumes the most energy in the world, but she still remains the most plentiful energy resources undeveloped yet.

4.  Regarding the scientific development of high-tech, so far, the USA still remains her leadership in this world. Especially in the field of developing the space in the future, the USA is still in control of most of the satellites; and in the near future, the satellites can serve another function: to bring the solar energy back to the earth. So far, the USA is still leading the future development of this high tech.

5. Traditionally speaking, any country which controls the oceans controls the world. Not many countries as the USA which covers and controls the coasts of both Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Besides that, the USA so far owns many excellent natural harbors which all year around maneuverable and unbeatable.

6. Up to now, human population is still one of the best resources in any country. The USA has a good size of population and keeps attracting skillful people to join in this country’s future development.

7. Although the USA today has trouble in financial debts. The Federal and some State-governments face the challenges of bankruptcy, yet the American people in average still own a lot of fortunes and buying power. The purchasing power of American people still remains the best in the world.

I was amazed by Dr. Yang’s analysis. He kept saying other matters. I may share with you on next Sunday. But one more issue I would like to point it: We as Christians need to review all kind of saying from the biblical perspective, then, we may see things in a better way. Let us continue to discuss furthermore.
