A Weekly Meditation of Pastor Chang (February 28, 2010)

<Futurology, Soothsaying, Fortunetelling, and Biblical Prophecy> (11)

Let us continue to talk about the future of China:

In my constant prayers, meditation, and my observation, I see the change of China which recently is getting speedy up more. I discover that within this 10 years (from 2010 ¨C 2020) is a critical period of time for China to be either a country of God or a country of devil?

Let us go back to see the past Chinese history:

Last 300 hundred years, during the last Dynasty ¨C Qing, from the third emperor down for about 100 years, China took ¡°the self-lock-up policy,¡± closed the door to communicate with outsiders. It was because of the shortsighted arrogance of the emperors to despise the surrounding countries. Unfortunately, during that period of time, the entire Europe was progressing with a great ¡°industrial revolution.¡±  China missed the train. 100 years later, China discovered that they were behind about 200 years. By that time, because of the new invention and improvement of weapons in the Western world, and the rising up of the ¡°imperialism,¡± the European countries moved out to colonize the third world countries which China was included. By that time, China suffered a lot. From that time on, the attitude of Chinese people changed: from despising the foreigners (especially toward the white people) to become admiring and flattering. There was an event I went to a family to soothe a kind of tension between a mother and a daughter. During our conversation, the daughter arrogantly said to me in English, ¡°My husband is a white American.¡± And my response was, ¡°So what! Is he different from other kind of people?¡±

After the fall of the last Dynasty ¨C Qing, China became more open to the world. Unfortunately, after 1949, when the Communists took over the regime, China closed its door again for another 30 some years. It was until President Nixon first visited China, and Prime Minister Zhou Un-Lai started changing the foreign policy, and Deng Xiao-Ping finally announced: ¡°China needs to be open and reformed.¡± China began to start their transformation. Later on, after the door open, Chinese students were allowed to go overseas to study; and business people were allowed to go anywhere in the world to do business. Since then, the arms of the world are open widely to China. And China begins to embrace the world too.  I still remember 10 some years ago, when I visited Shanghai and Beijing, even the best Chinese restaurants were not so tasty, and the qualities of some goods were still poor. But, it only takes few years, now everything is changed and different.

However, seeking for changing to become better is good. But to change the hardware, the external structure is much easier than the software, the internal beings. For example, to modernize a city is easy: just tear down the old buildings and old streets; and start constructing new buildings and new streets according to the new designs. But to change a bad habit, an old evil custom, such as: problems of ethics, corruptions, public morality and orders, they are much more difficult. It takes longer time and efforts. China is a country expert in making slogans in public. But it only remains in a very superficial way.

Furthermore, it is about the time for China to change the old religious superstitions and reconstruct the old cultural system. It is so important, because religion and culture affect human spirit and behaviors. In the past, Christianity has been rejected, forbidden, and distorted in China. Now it is the time to be welcomed, accepted, and proclaimed, because I am convinced that only in Jesus Christ, one may find the true fountain of life, true meaning of life, true peace of life, and true hope of life. If a nation summits herself to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, that nation and society will be blessed and transformed to be a better one.

If anyone asks me: ¡°Can China be better in the future?¡± My answer is, ¡°Yes, she will, but only in the hand of Jesus Christ!¡±  (To be continued¡)
